All orthodontists
are dentists, but not all dentists can say they
are orthodontists:
In addition to a
college degree and a dental degree, all
orthodontists go through an additional
two-to-three years of residency training. Some
dentists do orthodontics, but only those who
have gone this extra mile can claim to be
specialists.

>The
American Board of Orthodontics:
Becoming board certified in
orthodontics is a rigorous process, which takes several years. Board
certification is not mandatory and therefore shows a dedication on
the part of the orthodontist to reach the upper echelon of his or
her profession.
